Independence Day In The Big Apple
Staying in the city for the holiday weekend? Don’t fret, there are tons to do! Have a Fourth of July adventure that will make your friends wish they never left with the help of these destinations. Check out the app for more great lists or make your own collection to share with friends who missed out on the fun!
Baby, You’re a Firework – Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks at Grand Ferry Park
We have to start with this classic. This year’s Macy’s 4th of July fireworks are over the East River, and the show begins at 9:25 PM est. Head over to Williamsburg and post up on the waterfront at Grand Ferry Park. After all, the only way to make fireworks more explosive is to watch them with the Gotham skyline in the background. And in exchange for the hike, you’ll get some glorious personal space.
Party on Garth – LIC Flea & Food
What do the tastiest food, retro antiques, and day drinking all have in common? They’ll be in attendance at the LIC Flea & Food July 4th Party! If you’ve never been to this open-air bazaar in Queens, now’s the time to change that. Come for the all-Queens Beer and Wine Garden and stay until it gets dark for a great view of those infamous fireworks.
Lo, What Fools These Mortals Be – Midsummer Night Swing at Damrosch Park
Tired of trying to convince your parents (or yourself) that you have hobbies other than bar hopping? Now’s your chance to spice up your routine with Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing. David Ostwald’s Louis Armstrong Eternity Band will be bringing down Damrosch Park on the Fourth. The danceathon starts at 6:00 PM, so come ready to learn some tucks and spins. Between the fireworks and the fire jazz, you’ll be basically in West Egg (say hi to Leo for us).
Tiësto + KSHMR + Cheat Codes + AAZAR = 1 EDM Rage-Fest – Governor’s Island
Is there really a better way to celebrate freedom than with a massive rage? Head on over to Governor’s Island for this epic Independence Day throwdown. See one of the world’s biggest DJ’s in front of that unmatched NYC skyline. Some parties are just too wild to be inside.
Let’s Be Mermaids – The Mermaid Inn East Village
Celebrate the Fourth the right way– with a party in your mouth! Head over to The Mermaid Inn for endless cocktails and $1 east coast oysters. Unfamiliar with the classic American clambake staple? Check out the restaurant’s oysterpedia recommendation app. After all, what’s a summer in the northeast without the seafood to match?
Is there anything more patriotic than watching people scarf down an American classic? Head over to Coney Island for the 2017 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest to take in the 10 minute battle for the belt. A true tradition (admittedly not for the weak of stomach), bask in the patriotism and then treat yo’ self to a Nathan’s dog….if you still can.
